Are you interested in being our Manager?

The Market Manager reports to the Board of Directors of the St. Marys Farmers’ Market Association and may not be a member of the Association or a vendor of the St. Marys Farmers’ Market. The Market Manager is expected to attend monthly board meetings. 

Remuneration is by honourarium.


Duties and Responsibilities 

1. Attend and supervise the weekly operation of the St. Marys Farmers’ Market from mid-May until the end of October:

  •  assign stalls to vendors 
  • help set up the market stall or stalls and assist vendors to set up their canopies, as needed 
  • enforce market policy and regulations, as required 
  • collect and keep a record of membership and vendor stall fees and issue receipts 
  • give the record and money collected to the Market Board Treasurer 
  • collect health unit forms and submit forms to the health unit 
  • manage the weekly market draw 
  • mediate any disputes that may arise at the market and bring issues to the attention of the Board of Directors, as needed. 

2. Maintain records of St. Marys Farmers’ Market business:

  • applications for all members and vendors 
  • weekly sales records and statistics regarding weather, approximate number of customers, other activities in town, etc. 
  • compile sales records at the end of the season for presentation to the AGM 
  • contact information for all Board members and vendor members. 

3. Arrange start of the season and weekly promotion and advertising of the market through both traditional media and social media, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Promotions Committee.

  • Maintain activity on the market’s Facebook and Instagram accounts throughout the market season 
  • place regular ads in local newspapers, newsletters, etc. 

4. Maintain the Market stall:

  • set up, display and distribute information, recipes, etc. to increase customer awareness of what is available at the market and how to use fresh, local food 
  • interact with market customers to actively promote the buying of local food from market vendors 
  • provide information to vendors and potential vendors 
  • other duties as assigned by Board of Directors. 

5. Work with the Board of Directors to organize and promote market fundraising projects (e.g. pancake breakfast, Souper Douper Saturday).


6. Prepare a written monthly report for, and attend the monthly Board of Directors meeting. Send Board meeting minutes to vendors via email, once the minutes are written and distributed to the Board.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills - friendly, outgoing, personable, enthusiastic, committed 
  • Effective time management skills - punctual, responsible, reliable 
  • Familiar with and able to be active on social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook and Instagram 
  • Knowledge of local produce and Ontario farm products an asset
